Transferring Your Domain To or From NG Domain

Domain transfers allow you to move your domain name from one registrar (domain provider) to another. You might do this to consolidate your domains, get better pricing, or access different management features.

Transferring Your Domain TO NG Domain (Incoming Transfer)

Follow these general steps to transfer your existing domain name from another registrar to NG Domain:

  1. Prepare Your Domain at Your Current Registrar:

    • Unlock Your Domain: Most domains are locked by default to prevent unauthorized transfers. Log in to your current registrar's control panel and unlock your domain.
    • Disable WHOIS Privacy: If you have WHOIS privacy protection enabled, you may need to disable it temporarily. This allows NG Domain to verify ownership details.
    • Obtain EPP/Authorization Code: Request the EPP code (also known as Auth Code, Authorization Code, or Transfer Key) from your current registrar. This code is required to authorize the transfer.
    • Check Admin Email: Ensure the administrative contact email address listed in your domain's WHOIS information is current and accessible, as transfer confirmation emails will be sent there.
    • Domain Age & Status: Ensure your domain is eligible for transfer. Typically, domains cannot be transferred within 60 days of registration or a previous transfer, or if they are in a "Redemption" or "Pending Delete" status.
  2. Initiate the Transfer at NG Domain:

    • Go to the "Domain Transfer" section on the NG Domain website.
    • Enter the domain name you wish to transfer and the EPP/Authorization Code you obtained.
    • Add the transfer to your cart and proceed to checkout. Transfer fees usually include a one-year extension of your domain registration from its current expiration date.
  3. Authorize the Transfer:

    • You (as the domain's administrative contact) will receive an email to approve the transfer. Follow the instructions in this email to confirm.
    • Your current registrar may also send an email to confirm you wish to transfer out; you might need to approve this as well, or simply not object.
  4. Wait for Completion:

    • Domain transfers typically take 5 to 7 days to complete. The exact time can vary depending on the TLD and the registrars involved.
    • During the transfer, your website and email services should continue to function normally as long as your nameservers are not changed prematurely.
  5. Manage Your Domain at NG Domain:

    • Once the transfer is complete, you'll receive a confirmation, and you can manage your domain through your NG Domain account.

Transferring Your Domain FROM NG Domain (Outgoing Transfer)

If you need to transfer your domain away from NG Domain to another registrar:

  1. Login to your NG Domain Account.
  2. Ensure the domain is eligible for transfer (e.g., not within 60 days of registration/previous transfer, not expired).
  3. Unlock your domain from the domain management section.
  4. Disable any domain privacy services associated with the domain if necessary.
  5. Obtain the EPP/Authorization Code from your NG Domain control panel or by contacting support.
  6. Initiate the transfer at the new (gaining) registrar using the EPP code.
  7. Approve any confirmation emails you receive from NG Domain or the gaining registrar regarding the transfer.
