Service Expirations & Renewals at NG Domain
Renewing on time keeps your website and email working and stops anyone else from claiming your name. This guide covers domains and the yearly services attached to them.
What Renews, and What Doesn't
- Domains renew every year.
- DNSSEC renews yearly alongside its domain.
- WHOIS privacy is included free, so it has no renewal fee.
- Backorders and concierge requests are one-time fees and never renew.
Why Renewals Matter
- Your website and email stop working when a domain expires, because its DNS stops resolving.
- You can lose the name. After the registry's grace and redemption periods, an expired domain is released for anyone to register.
How Renewal Works

Reminders:
- We email you before each renewal is due, so it never catches you off guard. Reminders go to the email address on your account.
- The renewal price is shown before you first buy, so you know what to expect.

Renewing:
- Sign in to your dashboard.
- Find the domain and choose to renew it.
- Pay through Paystack's secure checkout. Your new expiry date shows in the dashboard once the renewal is confirmed.

Auto-renew:
- Switch auto-renew on in the domain's Settings tab to have it renewed before it expires, or off if you'd rather renew it yourself.
What Happens if a Domain Expires?
- Grace period: for a short time after expiry, you can usually still renew at the normal price. Your website and email may already be down.
- Redemption period: after the grace period, renewal may still be possible, but the registry charges an extra redemption fee.
- Release: if the domain still isn't renewed, it's deleted and becomes available to anyone.
The exact length of each period depends on the extension.
Tips
- Renew early rather than waiting for the last reminder.
- Keep your account email current so reminders reach you.
- Check expiry dates for all your domains in your dashboard now and then.
