Why Is My Email Going to Spam? A Deliverability Checklist

Most spam-folder problems come down to a few things you can check yourself.

  1. All required DNS records show OK on the domain's Email tab. SPF, DKIM and DMARC are how other providers know your mail is really from you. See Email DNS Records Explained.
  2. You have only one SPF record, and it includes include:amazonses.com.
  3. Your name and subject look like a real person's mail. All-caps subjects, lots of links, or a lone image with no text look like spam.
  4. People expect your mail. Mail to lists you bought, or to people who never asked to hear from you, gets reported, and reports hurt everyone sending from the same servers. That's why sending limits exist, and why a mailbox that causes lots of bounces or complaints has its sending paused.
  5. Ask recipients to mark you "Not spam" and add you to their contacts. Their provider learns from it.
  6. Newsletters go through a newsletter service, not your mailbox.

Still landing in spam? Contact support with an example message's headers and we'll look.

Is mail you're expecting landing in your own Spam folder? See Search and Spam in Webmail.
