Moving takes two parts: point new mail at NG Domain, and copy your old mail across.
1. Create the mailbox first
Create a mailbox with the same address you use today on the domain's Email tab, before changing anything else. See Getting Started.
2. Switch where new mail goes
New mail follows your domain's MX record. On the Email tab, the DNS records card shows what to change:
- NG Domain DNS: click Fix DNS. We replace the old MX record and keep your SPF record working for both.
- DNS elsewhere: replace the old MX record there. See Business Email with Your Own DNS Provider.
DNS changes reach everyone within a few hours. Until then some mail still lands at your old provider, so keep that account open for a week.
3. Copy your old mail
Use a desktop mail app such as Thunderbird to copy folders between the two accounts over IMAP:
- Add both accounts to Thunderbird: your old provider's IMAP settings and your NG Domain settings.
- In the old account, select the messages in a folder, right-click, and choose Copy To → your NG Domain account → the matching folder.
- Repeat for each folder you want to keep.
For Gmail, turn on IMAP in Gmail's settings first. For cPanel hosts, use the IMAP settings in your cPanel's Email Accounts → Connect Devices page.
